作為一種可描述 web services 的 xml 格式，wsdl 1.1 于 2001 年 3 月曾在一份記錄中被建議到 w3c（由ariba、ibm 以及 microsoft）。
此記錄還描述了如何結合 soap 1.1、http get/post 以及 mime 來使用 wsdl。
